Get Out Get Active was initially a four-year initiative to get people active across the UK. The focus is on increasing participation in fun and inclusive physical activity so that disabled and non-disabled people can enjoy this recreational activity together. Our £4.5 million award funded a UK-wide consortium led by the Activity Alliance who will deliver Get Out Get Active.

Due to its success, we have awarded an additional £3 million, including additional £1 million investment from Sport England and London Marathon Charitable Trust, to extend the programme for a further three years and its reach to new communities throughout the UK.

To date it has engaged more than 25,000 inactive people across the UK and over 3,000 volunteers, and is meeting the challenge of reaching the least active, with 7 out of 10 participants who join the project admitting to doing less than 20 minutes physical activity a day, and half to doing none.

Project aims

  1. Increase participation in fun and recreational physical activity where disabled and non-disabled people can be active together
  2. Reaching the very least active disabled and non-disabled people in recreational physical activity.
