Incubation funding: inclusive volunteering - test and learn

We are now seeking applications for one grant of up to £60,000 from delivery organisations who wish to pilot more inclusive approaches to volunteering using a practical, test and learn approach.

The successful applicant will develop and test best practice in supporting disabled people to volunteer as equals alongside non-disabled people, and use the learning to build on the current evidence base, including the research currently being undertaken by the two previous Spirit grants on inclusive volunteering.

Spirit will organise for the successful applicant to meet the researchers from the Evidence into Practice phase in order to hear first-hand the findings from their research and identify how their test and learn project may evolve as a result of this. It is hoped that learning sessions like this will happen at several points throughout your project.

We welcome applications from disability-led organisations and/or freelance researchers who self-define as disabled.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications for projects delivered in partnership between disabled and non-disabled people-led organisations.

We are open to your ideas, but examples might include:

  • A project working with an existing volunteer initiative or programme to pilot and embed more inclusive volunteer recruitment, training and delivery practices.
  • A new volunteering programme or initiative which requires funding to build an inclusive approach from its inception.
  • Projects that use disabled and non-disabled volunteers to increase physical activity, creativity or social connection.

We are looking to award a single grant of up to £60,000 from this funding round. There is no minimum stipulation about the time period that this funding might cover, but typically we would expect such a project to work over 12-24 months maximum.
