Red Cross Guide to Recruiting Volunteers

Spirit of 2012 funded the British Red Cross Inspired Action project, enabling them to remove barriers for young disabled and non-disabled people around volunteering.

Gaynor Smith, Inspired Action Project Manager, British Red Cross

Would your organisation like to support young volunteers? Inspired Action was a youth engagement project, aimed at young people who do not typically engage in volunteering. The project explored how to remove barriers so everyone can enjoy the benefits of being a volunteer.

Funded by Spirit of 2012, and in partnership with Whizz-Kidz, the project supported nearly 700 young people into volunteering opportunities. During the process, the Red Cross learned a lot about being inclusive when it comes to disability. They have created a free guide about how to recruit and support young volunteers, based on their experience of delivering Inspired Action across the UK. It contains top tips and resources that can be adapted to different settings.
