First Women of the World Festival in Norwich is a huge success

Spirit of 2012 has funded five of the UK’s regional WOW festivals. Each celebrates women and girls and takes a frank look at what prevents them from achieving their potential – as well as sets about creating possible solutions.

“One of Spirit’s goals for 2018 is to empower, inspire and engage young women and girls to improve their wellbeing, enhance gender equality, and develop social cohesion,” said Spirit of 2012 Chief Executive Debbie Lye. “We are immensely proud to fund five regional WOWs, and were delighted to be part of the packed programme at WOW Norwich.”

Spirit’s Head of Learning and Impact Amy Finch attended the weekend along with members of her family.

“It was great to get the opportunity to listen to such wide-ranging discussions, and hear from local social activists making a difference to women in Norfolk,” she said.

“The highlight for me was the conversation on positive parenting, with the wonderful poet Hollie McNish and 13-year-old Mimi calling out stereotyped attitudes.”  

Founded in 2010 by Southbank Centre’s Artistic Director Jude Kelly CBE, WOW is now the largest women’s movement in the world, reaching over 2 million people in 23 cities across five continents.
