Spirit has awarded £5,000 to help support a National Paralympic Heritage Regional Exhibition in Norwich.
The exhibition will be the result of a collaborative community engagement project with local disability groups and sports clubs groups and several Paralympians. It is hoped that this will lead to the discovery of local archives and collections that will then form part of an exhibition telling the story of the Paralympics, culminating at Norwich Cathedral. The project will also comprise of local community-based workshops.
If successful, this will be the first of a number of regional Paralympic Heritage Exhibitions, which will enlighten and inspire future generations by celebrating, cherishing and bringing the Paralympic heritage and its stories of human endeavour to life.
The National Paralympic Heritage Trust is creating an exciting Paralympic Heritage Centre at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury, to celebrate its birthplace. These additional regional exhibitions will ensure that other regions across the UK have the chance to explore and tell their own Paralympic story.
The majority of funding for the Exhibition is being provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Norwich Museum Service and Norwich Cathedral are also providing support.
