Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) worked with partners on six pilot projects, exploring how principles of good volunteer management can be embedded and applied consistently across different kinds of events.
Partners ranged from the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff, to the Urdd Eisteddfod youth festival in Flintshire, to an inaugural mental health arts festival in Merthyr Tydfil. While there was increasing interest in episodic volunteering in the voluntary sector, there was no good practice guidance to support event volunteering across Wales.
More than 80% of volunteers reported gaining skills in working with others and trying new things.
