Celebrating Windrush Toolkit
A toolkit from British Future for communications and events to mark the 75th anniversary of Windrush in 2023.
As part of the Moments To Connect fund, Spirit of 2012 awarded funding to British Future for Windrush 75: Shared past, shared future – a research project which investigates how the Windrush 75th Anniversary can bring people together from different ethnic, social and political backgrounds.
The Inquiry into the Power of Events recommends that more events should be designed and curated with a broad range of stakeholders to build common ground across divides, and that the major of events of 2023 provide a unique opportunity to achieve this.
Organisations across the UK will hold events and activities to mark Windrush 75. Many have been marking Windrush Day for some time, and are looking to this special anniversary to reach wider audiences. For others this anniversary may represent a first engagement with the history of Britain’s diversity.
This toolkit aims to support practitioners in designing Windrush anniversary events. It offers evidenced advice on communicating about the 75th anniversary of the Windrush and the types of events that will most appeal to different audiences.
