Working with the Scottish Government, our Sporting Equality Fund supported no fewer than 12 projects targeting women and girls to participate in sport and physical activity.
Being active can help girls and young women stay mentally as well as physically healthy. Girls are more likely than boys to feel pressured by school work, and less likely to say that they like school; close to a fifth of 15-year-old girls said they had felt lonely in the last week, compared to 7% of same age boys; and fewer than half of all 15-year-old girls said that they felt full of energy or were able to pay attention in class in the last week.
The successful organisations that benefited from Sporting Equality Funding were:
North Ayrshire Leisure Ltd (KA Leisure)
Z1 Girls Group
Scottish Sports Futures
Venture Trust
Netball Scotland
Fighting Chance Project (Scotland)
Glasgow Bike Station
Scottish Youth Dance
Fife Council
Peek
Scottish Women Warriors Wheelchair Basketball Club
